Pass Interference

I was watching the Michigan State v. Nebraska game tonight and I thought the refs made a great call on not calling defenvise pass interference on MSU.  The offensive player posted his hand on the defenders chest.  The defender did hook the arm but did not reach for it.  In my opinion, the offensive guy infuriated contact.  If anyone should be flagged it would be him.  The announcers made a big deal about it but call it fairly.

Out of Bounds Hits

The first rule that I want to discuss is out of bounds hits.  Late Hits are annoying to me in general.  Some players are clearly hit when they are out of bounds and play has stopped.  Most of the time, I feel that defensive players are penalized for playing hard during hard play.  Here are my thoughts on late hits out of bounds:

The call on out of bounds drives me nuts.  How many times do they show a replay and a player is hit just as they step out on the white line.  Even worse, when the player hasn't even stepped out yet.  Offensive players are allowed to try and fake going out of bounds, then pull up in time to run forward another 2 or 3 yards.  Sometimes they will break it down the field for a large pick-up.  I don't think that you can have it both ways.  You either allow players to get hit, and potentially hit hard, near the sideline or you penalize players you appear to be running out of bounds then turn up field for a couple of more yards.  It is very annoying to watch football when the offense and defense are help to different standards.

Welcome to Annoying Football Rules

I'm sure that I will be unable to go over all the annoying football rules that exist.  I am building this site as a place for football fans to complain about football rules.   This is not a site to complain about how your team had a botched call, or to complain about how poor the officiating was during a game.  I want to focus on the the rules and how they seem to favor some positions over other positions.
